Direct answer: Allow for the bottle project at origin, the booked departure from Qingdao, ocean transport and destination delivery separately. Based on RS Glass’s operating experience, around 30 days from order confirmation to the agreed container-loading or Qingdao-port dispatch stage is a reference for planning an order. It is not a promise of overseas arrival within 30 days. New-bottle sampling, approval changes, decoration and the selected vessel must be checked for your project.
This guide answers the questions international whiskey, vodka, rum, gin, tequila and brandy buyers ask about production lead time and Qingdao shipping. The company timing comes from our project experience; the route examples come from the carrier sources linked below, reviewed October 7, 2026.
How long does sampling take before production?
In our previous custom-bottle project communications, sample preparation was normally described as 8–10 days after receipt of the mold fee. Photos were provided first, followed by physical samples for approval. This refers to sample preparation, rather than courier delivery or approval by the buyer. Revised drawings or another sample round can change the schedule.
The starting route matters:
- Finished stock: Confirm the actual available quantity, inspection, closure and packing before agreeing dispatch.
- An existing mold: It can reduce new-tooling work, but does not mean finished bottles are already available.
- A new bottle shape: Agree the drawing and sample-tooling stage, then approve the physical sample before scheduling bulk production.
We also distinguish sample costs: an available finished sample normally involves courier cost; an existing mold without a ready sample involves sample production and courier costs; a new mold and sample involve sample-tooling, sample-production and courier costs. Confirm the particular route before starting the clock.
What does the approximately 30-day origin lead time include?
Our reference is the agreed origin milestone: container loading or delivery to Qingdao port, as specified for the order. The production start date, approved specification, payment conditions and included operations should be recorded in the order confirmation. Avoid treating the date of an initial enquiry as the production start.
Confirm whether closures, labels, printing, frosting, color spraying, hot stamping and other decoration are included in that schedule. There is no single extra decoration allowance applicable to every bottle. A decorated order should have an approved artwork and sample, a coordinated production plan and a final packing date.
Inspection, packing, inland movement and the port handover need to fit the origin plan. If they are already included in the quoted 30-day scope, do not add them a second time. If the scope changes, request an updated date.
How does a bottle order move from production to shipment?
- Confirm specifications and approvals: bottle drawing or stock model, capacity, weight, closure, artwork and sample requirements.
- Agree the production plan: record the start conditions and the origin delivery milestone.
- Complete production and any agreed decoration: coordinate bottle, closure and packaging quantities.
- Inspect and pack: check the agreed acceptance criteria and export packing. See our export-packing guide.
- Meet the booking deadlines: coordinate container loading, inland transport, required documents and terminal handover against the selected vessel.
- Track departure and arrival: distinguish cargo delivered to port from cargo actually loaded and the vessel’s actual departure.
- Arrange destination release and delivery: allow for unloading, customs, release, pickup and the journey to the bottling facility.
How long is shipping from Qingdao to overseas ports?
The table gives illustrative intervals from carrier service rotations, not confirmed bookings. For example, FAL6 lists Qingdao at rotation day 3 and Rotterdam at day 45: the difference is 42 days. These figures describe a selected service, not the fastest possible route or a universal country average. Use the actual booking’s ETD and ETA for shipment planning.
| Destination country | Destination port | Indicative rotation interval from Qingdao | Carrier reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | Los Angeles | 22 days | EX1 [1] |
| South Korea | Busan | 1 day | EX1 [1] |
| Japan | Kobe / Nagoya / Yokohama | 5 / 7 / 9 days | EX1 [1] |
| Singapore | Singapore | 14 days | FAL6 [2] |
| Netherlands | Rotterdam, first call | 42 days | FAL6 [2] |
| United Kingdom | Felixstowe | 46 days | FAL6, following Rotterdam [2] |
| Germany | Hamburg | 50 days | FAL6, following Felixstowe [2] |
| Australia | Melbourne / Sydney / Brisbane | 21 / 24 / 28 days | A3N, sequential Australian calls [3] |
EX1, FAL6 and A3N are described as weekly services in the carrier flyers. Weekly frequency does not establish that space is available on your preferred departure. A missed cutoff, omitted call, revised rotation or connection can move the delivery date. The carrier identifies its published schedules as indicative and subject to change. [4]
What about Brazil, other countries and connecting routes?
Brazil — announced future service: CMA CGM’s September 30, 2026 announcement says its revised SEAS2 network starts from Asia in mid-December, with the first Tianjin Xingang departure on December 14, 2026. Its September flyer lists Qingdao to Rio de Janeiro at 39 days, Santos 41, Paranaguá 44, Itapoá 46 and Itajaí 48. These are references for the announced future rotation, not a claim that it is already operating on October 7. [5][6]
For Canada, Mexico, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Russia, France, Italy, Spain, the UAE, South Africa, Argentina and other destinations, provide the exact discharge port and desired shipping window. We will confirm the available direct or connecting itinerary for that shipment rather than publish an unsupported fixed number.
A country may have several ports with different schedules. A connecting service also needs the transfer-port waiting time and onward connection checked. For a landlocked destination, the sea leg ends at a gateway port and an inland leg must be added.
Can I calculate my full delivery time by adding 30 days to the sea transit?
You can use that as part of a first planning calculation, but it is incomplete. For example, 30 days at origin + 22 days on the EX1 rotation = 52 days before accounting for any sampling outside the origin scope, waiting between port handover and sailing, destination release and inland delivery. This arithmetic is an illustration, not a 52-day delivery promise.
The useful planning equation is: approval time outside the agreed production scope + origin lead time + waiting until actual departure + ocean/connection time + destination release and delivery. Some tasks can overlap, so the final schedule should be built around milestones rather than adding every activity independently.
Customer questions about dispatch and delivery
Does “30-day lead time” mean the bottles reach my warehouse in 30 days?
No. Our reference concerns the agreed loading or Qingdao-port stage. Overseas transit and destination delivery are separate.
Does “ready to ship” mean the vessel has sailed?
No. Ask for the cargo-ready date, terminal handover date, vessel and voyage, planned departure, and actual departure confirmation.
Does ETA mean I can start filling immediately?
No. ETA is an estimated arrival milestone. Confirm cargo availability, customs and release, transport to your site and your receiving checks before committing to a filling date.
Will new molds or decoration change the delivery date?
They can. Confirm sampling and approval first, then ask whether decoration and closures are included in the agreed origin schedule.
What should I provide for a reliable delivery estimate?
Send the bottle model or drawing, quantity, closure and decoration requirements, destination port, final delivery location and latest acceptable receiving date. State whether you need port delivery or delivery to your facility.
